PEN PAL OPPORTUNITY

While in Sri Lanka I instituted an international pen pal program between my students and my old middle school. The project was incredibly successful and I began receiving letters from other girls around the school asking for American pen pals. I couldn't say no, and now have a small mountain of Sri Lankan letters that are waiting for a response. Most of the girls are between the ages of 12 and 14, although I do have a few as young as 10, and as old as 19. 

A pen pal would make an incredible difference in the lives of these Sri Lankan girls. They live in a small village along the southern coast and don't get a lot of exposure to the English language (which they are so eager to learn and practice) or to other cultures. These girls love their country but the chance to have a friend from another country is an opportunity so rarely afforded to them.
